Welcome to 'Wicked issues'

For more than 10 years, the University of York has been running distance-learning programmes in Public Policy and Management, offering professionals an opportunity to study for a Masters degree from one of the UK’s best universities whilst working. Our students are supported and taught by dedicated and experienced academics, and all involved, students and staff, form a thriving learning community in which professional development, intellectual curiosity, academic rigour and dedication to public values come together.

We are now very pleased to launch this blog as a space where members of the online team, students and selected guest contributors comment on current issues that are important to us and our students, notably from the field of international development, public services, social policy, public management and distance-learning.

Aiming for brevity, our blog posts will enable us to comment directly on current events, to discuss sometimes controversial political topics, and to expand the community of intellectual exchange that exists between students and teachers of the online programmes.

Thus, if you are interested in this form of commentary, do follow us on Twitter, so that we can keep you informed of new blog posts. And if you find a post interesting, do spread the word – our aim is to reach out to our students and beyond…
